Porter County GIVE Day Raises $282,633 for kids
What a difference a day makes! On Nov. 7, Porter County GIVE Day inspired people to give 1,360 gifts, which translates into $282,633 for the kids of Porter County. “GIVE Day may last just 24 hours, but the support it generates makes a lasting impact for kids,” said Barb Young, President of the Porter County Community Foundation, who presented the event. “Thank you to all who gave and supported the effort.”
GIVE Day began with a matching and prize fund of $75,000, contributed by generous donors. Then a website was created to accept gifts using credit cards, allowing donors to choose the nonprofit(s) they wished to support. The Times of Northwest Indiana partnered with the Foundation to promote the event as well as host a headquarters for walk-in giving. Donors began giving online at 12:01 am, and the giving continued until 11:59 that evening.
“GIVE Day provided the best opportunity for raising funds since we opened 15 years ago,” said Mariann Frigo, executive director of Jacob’s Ladder Pediatric Rehabilitation Center, one of the participating agencies. Jacob’s Ladder hoped GIVE Day would help them raise $50,000, enough for a down payment to purchase their first building. Their efforts paid off as they ended up with $73,955 before the match – more than any other participating agency. It was enough to proceed with the purchase. “We’re thrilled. We’ve rented for 15 years. We’re out of space and we currently have a waiting list of 30 kids, but we’re out of space. We’re treating kids in my office, in the stairwell and sometimes in the waiting room. A new building means we can help more kids,” she said.Jacob’s Ladder is the premier provider of pediatric rehabilitation services in Northwest Indiana. Founded by a therapist looking to make a difference in the lives of children with special needs, Jacob’s Ladder continues to make progress where a traditional rehabilitation clinic may not. We are a nonprofit organization seeking to make the lives of children better with every day. Like us on Facebook! Interested in volunteering with Jacob’s Ladder? Contact Liz Mayo at email@example.com
